The Interreg project “Genetics and Health of the Ibex in Terra Raetica” examines the genetic diversity and health of capricorn populations in Tyrol and South Tyrol. The goal is to establish a scientific foundation for the long-term conservation of healthy populations.
There are new arrivals at the Tyrolean Ibex Center in St. Leonhard im Pitztal: Two ibex kids have recently begun exploring their enclosure. Provincial Councilor René Zumtobel sponsored the kid born on June 12 and named him “Florian”—in memory of a deceased friend from the Pitztal.
By sponsoring the first ibex kid born at the Ibex Center, the Pitztaler Gletscherbahn is supporting the work of the Ibex Center. The young ibex was given the traditional Pitztal name “Cyprian.”
As part of the Interreg small-scale project, ibex populations in Terra Raetica were surveyed and analyzed across national borders. The data collected form the basis for uniform monitoring and sustainable ibex management throughout the region.
