Young Ibex in the Pitztal Valley
There’s some exciting news at the Tyrolean Ibex Center in St. Leonhard im Pitztal: Two ibex calves were born in June and have been exploring the approximately 4,000-square-meter enclosure together with their mother, Verena, and their father, Leonhard, ever since.

René Zumtobel (SPÖ), the provincial councilor for nature conservation and a resident of St. Leonhard himself, has become the sponsor of one of the two fawns. He named the fawn, born on June 12, “Florian.”
By choosing this name, Zumtobel honors a friend and game warden from the Pitztal who passed away at a young age. The sponsorship underscores the State of Tyrol’s commitment to nature and species conservation, as well as the importance of the Tyrolean Ibex Center as a place of education and discovery.
Visitors can observe Florian and his family in the enclosure and follow the young ibex’s development up close.
